Born in Denver, Colorado in 1954, Susan Lorae grew up in a military
family, traveling to, and living in, many places, both in the U.S. and
abroad. “Experiencing different cultures first-hand has enriched my life. I
find artistic inspiration everywhere I go”.
Although Susan Lorae studied art and attended classes as a young girl,
she is, for the most part, self-taught. Over the years, she has worked in
various mediums – pen/ink, watercolor and oils. Currently, she
concentrates on digital photo art from her photographs and drawings, as
well as stone work and art in metal & wood. She sells locally in Arizona as
well as the website, and is a juried online artist.
Although her themes and subjects are varied, Susan’s main artistic
passions are Southwestern, as well as ghost towns and ruins of the old
West. “The Desert captured my heart, and has continued to intrigue me
since first moving here well over 30 years ago. There is so much unique
beauty that can't be found anywhere else. From the tiniest cactus, to the
awe inspiring cliff dwellings of ancient peoples, the deserts of the
southwest are rich in life, culture, legend and lore. Ghost towns in the
West fascinate me as well. Just walking through ruins gives me a total
sense of respect for the people who lived there so long ago. The history
of the “wild west” is colorful and intriguing.”
